Apart from the abundant achievement in America, Asian scholars also have made a great contribution to the fruit of the current research. The Indian scholar M.A.Quayum and Sukhbir Singh adds a valuable collection to the research in the book The Man and His Work in 2000. In China, the eyes averted to the research began to brighten since 1990s and the research activates with a variety of research direction. Qiu Leying focuses on the study of narrative structure of Herzog by the application of Gerald Genette’s narratiological theory and attempts to disclose Herzog’s journey of spiritual salvation. Besides, the female characters in the novel are also discussed by a great deal of scholars. Furthermore, Marginal Protagonists’ Journey-A Study on Saul Bellow and Palph Ellison written by Wu Lingying and Jingzhi investigates marginality of the protagonist and offers readers a chance to experience the frustration and the imprisonment of these marginal protagonists. What’s more, Fu Yong compares Herzog’s spiritual resistance to reality with Apollo and Bacchus who F. W. Nietzsche had considered as representations of two distinctive agents of art. Still some scholars explore the philosophical meanings hidden in the novel.

The above criticism, whether favorable or unfavorable, shows the enormous attention that Bellow and his novel have been attached. The overwhelming interests are mainly on the exploration of the protagonist’s dilemma. However, few critics exert themselves to the research of the whole alienated psychological world of the protagonist. Even if there are bits and pieces about it, the criticisms just offer a glimpse. Therefore, the analysis of the alienated world in Herzog becomes indispensable. In addition, as Bellow gains the international reputation for his Jewish writing with a Jewish origin, the Jewish factors will occupy an essential part.
